Ways To Help

Help the children AT saidia

At Saidia we have 60 children from newborns to 18 year olds who live as a family in a safe and secure home built by Saidia Children’s Charity (Kenya) and Orphan Support League. There are many reasons why a child is brought to our home. Some have been abandoned as newborns, in bushes or even found in a plastic bag by the side of the road, the police have rescued others from traffickers, and others have a parent who is mentally unstable or very sick with AIDS.

The home is run by local trained professional staff and is overseen by a Kenyan board. The Orphan Support League helps to fund living costs at the home, food, clothes and most importantly, education. Schooling in Kenya is not free, particularly for High School and so many of our funds go towards uniforms, school fees and books. We also have a higher education fund that pays for university or vocational training so that we can help the young adults into independence.

In addition we also support the Bondeni Pre-school which is in the middle of the red-light district in Gilgil and provides a safe learning environment and food for 80 young children daily, plus life skills training for older children on Saturdays.

The Orphan Support League has a team of volunteers and spends no money on salaries, advertising or administration. This is so that every dollar we receive can be used to give hope to the children of Kenya. We choose which projects we fund very carefully and undertake regular site visits, paid for by ourselves personally, to make sure that your donations are being used wisely. Even a small donation can go a long way, so send us a check today or go to our Just Give page by clicking the button below.

If you would like to directly sponsor a child and receive letters and school reports please visit our sister charity in the UK, Saidia Children’s Charity (Kenya) who administer our sponsorship program.

We also encourage our donors to visit Saidia, either when passing or on one of our volunteer trips. We can also help if you want to create an event in your community to raise money such as bike rides, races or quilt raffles.

Sponsorship program

We invite you to become a sponsor of Saidia Children's Home and make a monthly donation of $25. You'll receive an annual communication from the children including letters, school reports and photos so you really feel part of the worldwide community supporting these children.

Ways To Help

The children that we support at the Saidia Children’s Home have very modest needs, so every dollar we receive can go a long way. For example:
  • $6 will feed a child for one week
  • $80 will enable a child to attend High School for a whole semester
  • $500 will support the Children’s Home for a month
We also accept donations specifically for the education costs of our older children - a year of university in Kenya costs around $2,300 - including books and accommodation.

You can give by sending a check to our address at the bottom of this page or by donating online via our Just Give page.
